Inlays
These are somewhere between a large filling and a crown. For example,

The inlay is produced in a laboratory between two visits, and it looks
like a tooth coloured filling that is ready to be fitted (inlaid) into
a matching cavity in the tooth, and that is what happens. The tooth is
restored to a natural appearance and function.
Veneers
